Trinity Laban Conservatoire

I'm no longer stuck ! yay!

So i'm super pleased with myself because I actually understand where my btech thesis argument is going now :) Read the introduction to my theories :)

The following theories organise the theoretical body and conceptual inspiration for the proposed design. The areas of investigation cover a broad spectrum of concepts that discuss an old and new interface, contemporary design, environmental graphic design and lastly theories of performing arts separated into subheadings drama and dance.

The first area for discussion is the old and new interface of the building. The site resides in an area of cultural and heritage value. Because the area is undergoing this regeneration, it is important not to lose the historical routes but it also must relate to enjoying the present and creating a great place for the future. The building has never been used for a performing arts school and it is important to relate the reuse of the space and building to the proposed user, which can be characterised as Generation Z.     

Contemporary design theories will provide the foundation for understanding how to design for a contemporary world and culture.  

Environmental graphics will support the identity and thus behaviour of the space. Not in the sense of way-finding or information design but more in the sense of assisting in the identity of the space to create an atmosphere which the user can respond or relate to. The environmental graphic design will influence the users’ ‘person and place psychology’ and create an emotional response to the space.

   

Theories of Performing Arts: Drama and Dance will include a modern discussion of Aristotle’s Poetics, which is the earliest surviving works of dramatic theory, and the dance theory known as choreology or dance script, which is dance movement analysis and description. Both these drama and dance theories discuss how these mediums of performing arts provides a range of forms, symbols and ideas with meanings that are expressive and malleable. The theories also discuss how art is a basic human instinct for harmony, beauty, balance and rhythm.
